Advanced Theology Course - Study Week

March 9, 6:00 p.m., until March 14, 2026, 1:00 p.m.

Crises and experiences of powerlessness are particular challenges – whether they are individual upheavals, sudden events such as accidents, social upheavals, or ongoing crises such as climate change or war. In light of this, theology must face the theological challenge of how such crisis events and the unanswerable questions that accompany them can be reconciled with faith in God.

The study event on “Crisis, Powerlessness, and Faith in God” explores this issue in depth. This is done from the perspective of biblical, historical, and systematic theology:

Experiences of crisis and powerlessness are as old as humanity itself. Biblical texts reflect human suffering but also the theological doubts and questions associated with it. Crises, challenges, and reorganisations have shaped church history to this day and have led to the development of theological models in systematic theology that discuss experiences of crisis in relation to belief in God and the image of God.

Overall, theological challenges and interpretive options are also considered in terms of their relevance to today's experiences of crisis and powerlessness.
